González Byass S.A. has been helping protect the natural world since 1835. With more than 2,000 hectares of vineyards in Spain, Mexico, and Chile, the company takes its stewardship of the environment very seriously. Its “5+5” commitment, now evolved to "People+Planet", recognizes that the González family have cared for the land while steering the company to the 21st century, so too must the next generations continue that mission. SAP Responsible Design and Production would help it design products sustainably and comply with evolving circular-economy regulations in the European Union and beyond in one centralized solution.
  • The ability to connect the solution smoothly with González Byass’s SAP ERP application and other SAP software so the company can reuse existing business context, data, and structures.
  • SAP Responsible Design and Production gives us visibility of supplier materials in terms of both packaging and the auxiliary materials it incorporates in its offerings. It can structure this information intuitively and link it with the volume of units it puts on the market for each product. By centralizing our EPR data in SAP Responsible Design and Production, González Byass can speedily access information across its countries of operation, helping it make environmental product declarations for each country quickly and accurately
  • Users appreciate the solution’s interface, which allows them to report on this data intuitively and speedily.
  • On the subject of our Business, we need to have Ecovidrio (Ecoembes) declaration included in RDP, as soon as possible. It is urgent for us.
  • The features feed for uploading information to the RDP should be more streamlined and user friendly
  • I would also improve the data quality part, it doesn't really make it clear where the problem might lie.
Scenarios where a company needs to have a lot of visibility and control over the materials it uses for manufacturing, companies that are generators of polluting materials and companies that need to manage different EPRs in different countries. It is perhaps less useful for smaller companies whose sector is not related or involved in waste management and who do not have much volume or presence abroad. These may be able to cope with a customised development that contains their costs.
  • For now we have not calculated the ROI, but we are aware that it relieves the workload of the team that manages it. When more reports/declarations are included, we will have a higher return, especially with Ecovidrio.
We evaluated products custom developed by other providers but what made us choose SAP RDP was that it had global reach and that it has a team behind it that works to continually improve it anywhere in the world.

  • Obtain the declaration for the plastic tax
  • Track data quality
As declarations will be incorporated, we will be able to have the data of all of them in one place, which allows us to be agile and save time and costs.

SAP Responsible Design and Production is used primarily for Data Integration Challenges. It is used in our asset system to helps consolidate and manage data from disparate sources like CSV files and third-party systems. It provides the tools to bring this multi-sourced data together. On top of this we learn about our waste; henerating insights into waste generation rates and types across facilities to identify reduction opportunities for our assets. Finally it is also needed for our risk management.

  • Data Analytics
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Initial Setup
  • Initial Integration
  • Cost
  • Ease of Training
It is well suited for our Customers who are particularly keen on reviewing the source of their Assets; Having the data integrated into one place so they can run analytics against it (to compare designs, vendors, locations etc.). This also allows them to run risk management reports which are a popular feature. It is less useful for our smaller customers where the number of assets does not warrant such tools and the time to integrate can be quite long.
  • + Improved customer relations
  • - cost
  • - time (in setup and integration)
  • + Solves Asset Risk Management
These are some of the other Risk Management softwares known of. Although these solutions may not match SAP's offerings as an entire package (as just focusing on the Risk management side for this question) and not fully knowledgeable to their capabilities but SAP Responsible Design and Production provides a reliable system that performs well and provides the data analytics we require.

We use SAP Responsible Design and Production alongside our S/4HANA infrastructure to monitor and manage the sustainability of our operations and whether our metrics leave us open to any additional taxes or fines. We have SAP Responsible Design and Production elements integrated to each of our machines as well as packaging, logistics, etc. operations. It's a pretty handy addon to S/4HANA to make sure everything's going as it should
  • The real-time monitoring is very handy. Not only for sustainability but it also helps spot issues as most of the time increases in negative output are due to errors in production
  • It's very customizable with the ability to add custom benchmarks and limits to each metric to design them for our country's regulations.
  • It solves a very specific problem while being able to integrate well with our current systems. Without it, we'd have trouble finding another tool to monitor these metrics this well
  • The pricing is very high as it is with most other SAP tools. Can't really think of much other than that
We have certain limits of negative output we need to stay below during production to maintain a sustainable operation and avoid getting fines, and SAP Responsible Design and Production monitors these in real-time and lets us know when there are issues with these so we can check why that might be. It helps catch things like this before they become a problem
  • It's saved us from having to pay environmental fines which would've been a lot higher than the cost of SAP Responsible Design and Production.
  • It's helped us maintain a production that' also sustainable for the environment
None. We already have an S/4HANA environment so there was no need to buy a third party. SAP Responsible Design and Production integrates very easily with our ERP so it was pretty much the only choice for us

We haven't used much of it since it has been released recently. But yeah, its a good solution for designing products sustainably and building a regenerative business. We used it for product packaging data management and it worked very nicely. But I have only explored a few areas of usage since its relatively new and we were just testing it out for the project.
  • Product Data Management
  • Product Packaging Data Management
  • Analyzing the impact of global regulations on the product
  • Pricing
  • Training on how to use
  • Since I have explored only a few options as of now, I don't feel any major issues with it.
I have used it only for some time, I haven't explored all of its features and functionalities. But I can say that for Product Packaging Data Management, SAP Responsible Design and Production is very well suited. You can also monitor the impact of global regulations of your product.
I have currently no idea of any scenario where SAP Responsible Design and Production will not be well suited.
  • Product Lifecycle Management
  • Global Regulation Monitoring
  • Cloud Deployment
  • It helped us to monitor impact of global regulations on our new product
  • It helped us to manage the product packaging data
  • It had a positive impact only, no negative points till now
I feel that SAP Responsible Design and Production has a vast variety of features and functionalities that if explored properly can really help your business to produce a sustainable product design, whereas other tools in this area are more focused on data management and providing analytics data. SAP Responsible Design and Production is more than that, it is really one of a kind tool according to me, just that I haven't explored it yet, to the best of its abilities.
